Many Congratulations to Kevin Morris for following his Top Dog win last time out to complete the double by winning the The Kings Oak Final. Congrats also to Stephanie Winder for making it to heads up.

Congratulations also to National Champion Viktors Kursitis for winning Top Dog for this latest League to add a Top Dog bronze Medal to his expanding 2019 poker bucket list.

It's been a tough few Months with us losing The Poker Palace, The Wyggeston and the Kings Oak all in quick succession, but with new Venues and players joining up at Shobnall Sports and Social Club, The Crewe Arms and The Camp, the early signs are very encouraging for our League so hopefully the numbers will continue to grow.

Malta National Championship Nov 2019

|Very Many Congratulations to our NEW Lppl Champion:
Sławek Casillas
who beat Pete Brood in a really exciting Heads Up. Both players played really well heads up and either could have won it. Two genuine nice guys who showed each other great respect, but after the year Slav has had i am sure Pete was just as pleased for Slav to win instead of himself.

3rd place went to Lppl National Champion Viktors Kursītis yet another prize to his collection.

4th place went to Mark Hodson-Walker and 5th Place went to Mr dependable Steve Timmis..

Result.

|Midlands Area Final (The Grange) 23rd June.

I just wanted to say on behalf of the players and myself, a special thanks to Vicky, Jessica, Anne Marea and Mandy for all their hard work looking after us all day. Your efforts were much appreciated.

Game Report:
27 players were present on the day and we had a lively interesting afternoons Poker and banter and we crowned a brand new Champion too.

Unfortunately for me the day got off to a bad start, when my Laptop Computer Software reacted badly to the latest Windows Update (Cheers Bill) so not a lot of notes early on as I worked at bringing my Laptop back to life.

By first break all was good again though and by this time we had a clear leader in Slav Casillas who had almost trebled his starting stack.

Slav Casillas 26k
Kevin Morris 17k
Steve Timmis 16k
Duncan Taylor 14.5k
And both Anne Marigny 12k and Ellen Robson 11.3k had also made decent starts.

Quite a few players fell by the wayside between break 1 and 2 leaving us with just 13 players by the time we stopped for hot dogs at 4pm.

Slav Casillas was still dominating the game at this stage having built on his great start, with Viktors Kursitis and Steve Timmis his nearest challengers and both Duncan Taylor and Vicky Lanchester in need of a double up.

Chipstacks at this stage:

Table 1
Anne Marigny 7.8K
Wayne Groves 18.5k
Steve Timmis 25.2k
Vicky Lanchester 3.2k
Slav Casillas 57k
Liz Winder 17.3k

Table 2
Duncan Taylor 4.4k
Pete Brood 11.9k
Stuart Challinton 6.8k
Mark Hodson Walker 17.5k
Viktors Kursitis 29.9k
Darren Gelsthorpe 17.5k
Kevin Morris 17k

Midlands Interleague 15 Team Captain Stuart Challinton (13) was next to fall, followed by,
12. Wayne Groves
11. Vicky Lanchester
10. Anne Marigny

Before (Former 3 time Champion) Darren Gelsthorpe became our Final Table bubble boy, and Duncan had managed to guide his small stack onto FT.

Slav was still heading the way at this stage with Kevin Morris, Liz Winder and Pete Brood his nearest challengers.

Final Table Seat Draw and Chip Stacks:

1. Mark Hodson Walker 16.9k
2. Slav Casillas 77.4 k
3. Viktors Kursitis 25k
4. Kevin Morris 29.9k
5. Liz Winder 29.8k
6. Duncan Taylor 3.2k
7. Steve Timmis 20k
8. Pete Brood 29.4k

Amongst our Final 8 we had National Champion Viktors Kursitis, and three former Area Final Champions in Kevin Morris (3 times), Steve Timmis (5 times) and Duncan Taylor (1) and amongst all that experience we had a first Area Final table visit for Liz Winder, and with Duncan the only short stack it was still very much game on in the chase to catch Slav.

8th Place: Duncan Taylor
Duncan was down to his final 1k and all in with A Q v K 7
Unfortunately a 7 on the flop sealed Duncan’s fate

7th Place: Kevin Morris
Another FT for Kevin ended when his KQ met A 4.
The board 6 8 2 K A ran kindly on the Turn but a rivered Ace sent defending Champion Kevin out

6th Place: Liz Winder
Unfortunately Liz became our prize bubble. Great effort by Liz though.
Liz was blinded in with her Final 3k holding 9 5 v Slav’s A 8
Board A Q 8 7 3

5th Place: Steve Timmis (Wins 25,000 Reward Points)
Yet another prize here for Steve but he got really unlucky here on a real cooler flop of 7 Q Q
Steve A 7 moved all in on flop
Pete snap called holding Q 10
Turn 9 River 2

4th Place: Mark Hodson -Walker (Wins 50,000 Reward Points)
Mark made a move with J 8 and just his luck he met a small pocket pair. 6 6.
Unfortunately neither of his over cards hit, and Mark was gone
Board 2 2 Q 4 10

3rd Place: Viktors Kursitis (Wins a National Championship Poker Main Event Entry)
(Entry to an APAT National Championship Main Event, with an LPPL-branded team shirt to be worn for the duration of the tournament)

Not the big prize this time for our National Champion but another decent prize and fine performance too.
Viktors aggressive style of poker meant he was always in with a shout here. Got Lucky at times got Un - Lucky at times too particularly in his Final hand against Pete which could have made things so different. Viktors raised with J 10. Pete holding Q 9 called.
Flop 10 3 2
Pete moved All In on flop, Viktors called
Turn Q
River Q
Ouch!

Many Congratulations to both Pete Brood and Slav Casillas on making it to heads up, and for the first time all day Slav was no longer our leader.
Slav Casillas 77k
Pete Brood 157k

After a brilliant heads up in which both players kept winning the edge, Slav went short stack only to claw his way back to win 3 hands in a row to take it down

2nd Place: Pete Brood (Wins a National Championship Poker Weekend)
(An LPPL group visit to a National Championship poker event with event buy in and Saturday night shared overnight accommodation, with an LPPL-branded team shirt to be worn for the duration of the tournament)

A Great effort from Pete ended with a fitting hand to follow up the heads up battle that had preceded it.

Pete J J v Slav A K

Pete raised to 16k
Slav re-raised to 32k
Pete moved All In
Slav Called
Flop 9 10 7
Turn A
River 3

Could have gone either way but fate was on Slavs side here.
Both players were winners here though, after a very sporting, friendly heads up which is what Pub Poker is all about.

1st Place: Slav Casillas (Wins An International Poker Weekend)
(An LPPL group trip abroad including return UK flights, 3 nights shared accommodation and buy in to a poker event, with an LPPL-branded team shirt to be worn for the duration of the tournament)

Very many Congratulations to our NEW Champion: Slav Casillas.

Dominated the game from start to finish, and rose to the challenge that Pete threw his way at Heads Up and came out Victorious.
Slav was so excited at the end, this meant a lot to him. Well done my friend and I hope you enjoy Malta if that is what you chose.

Good Luck to Stuart and the Midlands Team at IL15 in September. Bring it Home Team.

Look forward to seeing you all again at Stretton Social Club on September 22nd .
