|The Festival Of Pub Poker 2020 will take place at Sand Le Mere Holiday Village, Southfield Lane, Hull, HU12 0JH from Thursday 27th February to Sunday 1st March 2020 inclusive.

The extended weekend is open to ALL LPPL members, old and new, as long as they have played at least 1 live LPPL game prior to FOPP 2020.

There will be a full schedule of events similar to previous years throughout the 4 days, which will be confirmed later in the year - the accommodation booking form is attached and units are available on a first-paid basis (prices same as 2019).

FOPP 2020 'packages' will be made available in due course as Area Final prizes, and will include a mixture of accommodation unit, entry to events and 'free bar' for a period on Thurs 27th Feb.

|Charlie I thought that the first venue in Lincolnshire was the playhouse (which you have now confirmed ) I was only referring to the town and was unaware of the initial event at the Birchwood Social club .

Because of distance to travel , within Lincolnshire , it is difficult for a lot of people to travel to other venues and therefore if local players do not support their venues in these times unfortunately the venues will fold , this current league is now restricted to 4 venues only , if you discount Alford and Grantham .

WHAT IS THE ANSWER?

|Where will the next area final be after Whittlesby ?

The reason I ask is because my right knee will probably be replaced in late Dec /early Jan , and would like to qualify in first 2 months , however if it delayed may be forced to miss it and Nationals .

|What a waste of time , only 2 of us turned up yesterday , no point in having a game .

IMO this is what 3 monthly area finals has done to "need" to play .

Look at last qualifying period has resulted in 3 reserves probably no venue champions , small turnout.

|We still get a good game on Monday night at the Hammer Chas
Your very welcome. Haven't seen you there for months
I think your argument about 3 month finals is wrong. This is about a game of poker down the pub, not to do with qualifying for a final. You only have to look at the amount of " qualifiers " that don't play the final to know that not everyone is interested in area finals.
In my opinion the answer to the falling attendance is to encourage old players back, if only for the occasional game, and encouraging new players.
I'm sure we all know at least one " lapsed " player. Maybe a call or message might remind them that they used to enjoy a game, and an email from the LPPL might help.
I first started playing because I saw an advertising banner outside a pub. When was the last time you saw one of those. I'll bet anyone reading this that their venue has very little, if any, advertising anywhere..
In my day there were two or three guys visiting existing and potential venues. To the best of my knowledge there my only be one now.
But at the end of the day poker has had it's day. It is in decline. People have lost interest. So if we want the LPPL to survive, or even prosper we all have a duty to try to be positive and try to promote it. Not find reasons ( Like 3 month qualifying ) to talk it down.

|Tiny

Because of personal reasons I could not play except socially the last period
, I am not trying to deride the LPPL in any way and my objection to the increase in the time between area finals is as follows :-

1. It does not give an area final to each of the venues , however now that Alford and Grantham appear to not be playing there are now only 4 venues in Lincolnshire ( this does not take into account the new venue in Lincoln and also the multi nights played at the other venues )

2. To my knowledge there was no consultation between the LPPL and the venues or the players before this change was implemented.

3. The announcement that the area finals would be quarterly was made after the June,July,August period had started, when you look at the games played by period /venue unfortunately the Hammer has suffered the biggest decline in player numbers and number of games played
JJand A games players SOand Nov games players

Monday 140 27 88 15

Sunday 94 20 29 10

Thursday 87 19 31 10

4 . It did not work last time .

What I am saying is that it is so easy to qualify for 3 monthly area finals that the competition element even at venue level disappears .

Nowadays you only see LPPL management at the Nationals / Interleague and APAT events .

|Well you start by saying " I am not trying to deride the LPPL in any way " Then you finish with "Nowadays you only see LPPL management at the Nationals / Interleague and APAT events " You can't have it both ways Chas. As far as I'm concerned poker is in decline everywhere and it's up to you and me to keep the LPPL alive if we want a friendly game of poker down the pub. So in the off chance that an ex player might be thinking of coming back and is looking at this forum to see what's happening lets keep it up beat and try to support the LPPL.
